Favorites from Austin Kleon's Newsletter

Steal Like an Artist

We are in times where information and knowledge is not only abundantly available, but also delivered directly to our mail boxes. I have learnt a lot during this year by simple reading the newsletters that landed in my inbox

My favorite of them all is Austin Kleon: He is the author of Steal Like an Artist and other bestselling books about creativity. I first stumbled across Austin Kleon from Ali Abdaal’s video on ‘Steal Like an Artist’. Ever since, I have been an ardent follower of his newsletter.

Following are some of my favorites from the newsletter this year (in no particular order):

  1. Many people leave us in a year but their work keeps inspiring us. Take a minute to read obituaries or write on in your own words. RIPs feature in his newsletters frequently

  2. Building something as close you visualized is tough. Austin’s studio is eerily close

  3. Extend the magic when you experience them: Disney Parks + Disney Movies

  4. Map of your mind

  5. Importance of daily exercises: one-page diary exercises, the daily challenge, 1000-night plan, 30-day challenge, transcribe yourself, 100 days of practice

  6. Family dinner nights

  7. Inspiration is all around us: Can of tomatoes, Three things to learn from a child and 7 things from a thief

  8. Henry David Thoreau and Tim Kreider

  9. Coconuts

  10. Would I do that tomorrow?

  11. The five levels of hype

  12. Show your children who you are

  13. Intentionally spiraling out

  14. The power of seeing only questions in a writing

  15. How to start a newsletter

Looking forward for the ‘100 things
